Offensive Line Improved Over 2020

I know some folk reading this want to automatically attribute most of these improvements to Jordan Travis at quarterback. Some of this improvement is indeed a result of Jordan Travis, but the flip side is the running game did this without much of a passing game last year.

The successful play percentage is the biggest thing I want to point out. FSU ran the ball 46.8 percent of the time on first down last year and averaged 4.85 yards per carry.

They ran the ball 32.3 percent of the time on second down and averaged 5.15 yards per carry. If we remove all rushing totals for Jordan Travis, the offense still averages 4.85 yards per carry.

Pass protection wasn’t their strong suit, but they went from allowing sacks on 11.1 percent of their plays in 2019 to 9.9 percent in 2020. The offensive line allowed QB hurries 11.6 percent of the time in 2020 compared to 10.6 percent in 2019.

However, some of those 2020 numbers involve James Blackman and freshmen Tate Rodemaker and Chubba Purdy.

I think the offensive line will be better, but better quarterback play will amplify that too.
