FSU football recruiting is in a prime position as we are about eight weeks out from the season opener. The Noles have 15 of their 25(maybe 26) spots filled with quality players.

I know a coach down south called it fake momentum, although they have silent commits that chosen to go elsewhere.

There is nothing wrong with accepting commitments early, in fact, it’s better than the alternative unless you’re an elite program like Alabama.

I’ve worked in college admissions for 16 years, both four-year public and community college settings. Public colleges are funded by the state, which is determined by growth. The more a college grows, the more resources and money are allocated.

College admissions and recruiting are similar, and the easiest way to grow college enrollment is by retaining the students you enroll.

It’s easier and more affordable to do that than to recruit a brand new student. When we equate that to college football recruiting, it’s easier to keep a player committed(in general) than to recruit and sign a new one late in the process.

That’s why FSU football is in such a prime position heading into the season, and that position could improve before then.

FSU could gain 2-3 more commits before the Notre Dame game. Let’s say they get three, which would put them at 18 commits which leaves seven spots(or possibly eight) depending on some things.

They already have commitments at all of these positions and have quality targets remaining:

  • QB√
  • TE√
  • OL√
  • DB√
  • RB√
  • DL√

The Noles will be big fish hunting with the potential to land five more players ranked in the 247 Composite top 100. I don’t expect them to land all five, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see 2-3 of them join the class.

There are five more targets ranked between No. 101-184, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see FSU football land 1-2 of those.

Of those 10 players, I expect the Noles to land at least 3-4, which means the Noles would still have around three spots remaining in the class.

They could go to some plan B options or use those scholarships on players in the transfer portal.

It’s a great spot to be in regardless of the last year, but especially because of last year. It was the worst year record-wise in our lifetimes, and FSU is running circles around UF and Miami on the recruiting trails.

If the Noles can win some games and show improvement on the field, the window for UF and Miami to dominate will have closed.
