FSU Football: Top 5 most important offensive players for 2021
By Cole Maines
Dillion Gibbons and Devontae Love-Taylor
These aren’t the only offensive linemen that we need to contribute, but they are the most important. Both offensive linemen transfers are experienced and proven, in a position group lacking in both departments.
Love-Taylor was a major source of the offensive line’s improvement last year until a knee injury abbreviated his season. How he has been able to rehab and return will be paramount to the continued growth of this FSU football team.
New addition Dillion Gibbons will likely fill in the same role as Love-Taylor did last year. Gibbons pulling tug boats through the water as a part of his training definitely imbues me with the confidence that he will do just that.
The biggest qualifier for their success, and the teams, will be how the veterans can help the youth of the team progress. This is a common theme for much of the roster as well.
There is an element that I am still overlooking is the fact that this past offseason was the first of such for players like Dontae Lucas and Maurice Smith. These players have struggled in the past with injuries and timing, but seeing as they could finally lose weight and build strength to become more well-rounded contributors, they could improve massively.
Like Rod Orr and Robert Scott, others in the room are tapped to or have contributed early who desperately needed an offseason program devoid of restrictions like injury and COVID.
All in all, everyone needs to show some more quantifiable growth, and the future could look very bright. Key to both present and future, however, is the transfer portal additions along the offensive line.
