Experience At QB

One of the biggest concerns the past few seasons has been QB play. Blackman starting as a freshman that didn’t early enroll.

Deondre Francois missed all of 2017 and most of the offseason leading up to the 2018 season and is still named the starting quarterback.

James Blackman starting the 2019 season in a new offense under Kendal Briles. James Blackman started the 2020 season after not having an offseason to learn his fourth offense since he had been at FSU.

This situation brings us to why the QB position should see an upgrade in play over the last few seasons.

Whether the starter is Jordan Travis or McKenzie Milton, I expect an upgrade in play. Travis got a taste of a variant of Mike Norvell’s offense last season and will have had a full offseason to learn it all and get practice reps.

Milton comes to FSU football after acquiring tons of experience in a similar offense at UCF. He began to show comfort with the offense towards the end of spring camp and in the spring game.

I know folks worry about the FSU offensive line, but the unit can look improved if the QB play is better than it’s been in the past couple of years.

I should mention, I expect the FSU offensive line to be serviceable at the very least unless injuries compound.
