FSU football recruiting got its first commitment in June after hosting hundreds of recruits. Omar Graham Jr. committed to the Noles Sunday evening with an announcement on his Instagram account.

Omar Graham Jr.’s commitment pushes FSU from No. 14 to No. 8 nationally. The Noles continue to hold the No. 1 spot in the ACC.

FSU has nine commitments with the space to take 16 more high school players if they choose to do so.

It depends on how different recruitments shake out, but I think the coaching staff will leave 2-3 spots for players in the transfer portal.

FSU’s ability to take so many high school players significantly impacts their finish in the rankings.

As we know, they finished No. 23 last year but only took 17 high school players, which affected their final ranking since transfer players are not counted toward that total.

A year after the worst season in our lifetime and Mike Norvell and the coaching staff are running laps around Florida (No. 24) and Miami (No. 52).

The crazy part is FSU still has double-digit targets left ranked as blue-chip players.  The coaching staff filled some important spots in the class, with defensive tackle as the lone position not addressed yet.

They remain in a great position to add a couple of offensive line commits soon, and have done a great job building relationships with talented receivers. There are a couple of defensive tackles I know they like, but they are not what I would call difference-makers at the college level as young players.

This area could be the one position where they have to take players from the transfer portal as they have laid some solid groundwork on 2023 players in the trenches.

As I’ve said several times, the staff has to deliver an improved product on the field in 2021. If they do that, there’s no reason the 2022 class won’t be the highest-ranked class since 2017.
