I think we understand where we are as a program. They don’t have the talent to beat elite teams or even really good teams consistently.

However, the team has been more talented than many ACC teams over the last 3-4 years.

There’s no reason FSU football should be going life and death with Wake Forest, Duke, or any team that doesn’t recruit at a high level.  Yet, they lost or barely beaten those teams consistently.

It’s a combination of lack of elite talent and development from the players they have signed over the past few years.

IF the current roster is well-coached and gains familiarity with what they are asked to do, it’s not inconceivable to see them win every toss-up game on the schedule and surprise someone like North Carolina or Miami who has comparable talent.

I’m not saying that happens because there are so many unknowns with the way last year went and so many new players.

I’m just pointing out FSU is more talented than most of the teams they’ll be facing in 2021, which has been the case the past few years.

However, the lack of attention to detail, organization, and preparation has cost the program many times. All signs point to the current staff being an upgrade in those areas when they have time to implement and develop.

The key to improving the perception of the program is beating teams who have less talent. If the Noles do that, they should win seven games in 2021. A seven-win season would show improvement and give the coaching staff something to use to attract more blue-chip players.

If they can pull off an upset and reach eight wins, that would be optimal.

More blue-chip players coupled with player development would equal more wins, and eventually back to elite status.
