FSU football: Destyn Hill an impact player as a true freshman?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches raided the transfer portal in the 2021 recruiting cycle. The Noles have arguably the best class of transfer players that meet huge needs in the program.
However, the 2021 recruiting class has some talent, and we don’t have to look any further than the highest-rated recruit in the class, four-star wide receiver Destyn Hill.
Destyn Hill finished the recruiting cycle as the No. 112 player overall and No. 19 wide receiver. Hill completed high school earlier this month and will join the FSU football program shortly.
Hill wasn’t an early enrollee, but 247Sports still peg him as one of the top 100 freshmen in the nation to make an impact in 2021.
Four-star wide receiver signee Malik McClain was an early enrollee and made the list as well. McClain flashed some of his potential in spring camp.
It’s not easy for freshmen wide receivers to be impact players in college, especially if they don’t enroll early and go through spring camp.
There are so many nuances at the position, the speed of the game is much different than high school, and the competition is on another level.
How many freshmen wide receivers made an impact at FSU over the last 10-15 years? Not many, but the first one that comes to mind is one of the all-time great at FSU, Rashad Greene.
Ironically, Hill and Greene have high school rankings that are nearly identical. Greene was the No. 118 player overall and No. 16 wide receiver in his recruiting class.
Can Destyn Hill be a freshman that makes an impact in 2021? Let’s take a look at some factors that could make that happen.
