One of the biggest needs for FSU football over the past few years has been quality offensive linemen. Slowly but surely, the coaching staff has been plugging the hole in the boat.

One way they’ve gone about it is taking players from the transfer portal. The FSU coaching staff received a commitment from Notre Dame offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons last week, and it looks like they’re in the market for another one.

The thought is FSU has one more scholarship left for the 2021 recruiting cycle and would like to take one more offensive lineman or an impact defensive end.

Marshall offensive lineman Cain Madden put his name in the transfer portal, and the smoke began to fly about the FSU football coaching staff reaching out Wednesday afternoon.

Madden was an All-American offensive guard for the Thundering Herd last season. The former walk-on has one year of eligibility remaining.

Almost every team in the nation wants and needs quality offensive linemen, and Madden will be heavily pursued. However, everyone wants to know what are the chances FSU can land him?

Well, I know they are interested and it does help that another offensive lineman transfer just came onboard last week. That at least gives the impression it’s a place where offensive linemen are wanted.

However, the first thing that sticks out to me is Madden is originally from Minford, Ohio. That is extreme south Ohio, so maybe that is somewhat favorable as most players from the midwest tend to stay in that area instead of venturing down to Florida.

FSU can offer immediate playing time and will play against some of the best defensive linemen in the nation, with maximum TV exposure. FSU offensive line coach Alex Atkins has had offensive linemen drafted while at his previous school. Is Madden willing to make the trip south? Will a school in a better position to win their conference and make the College Football Playoff insert their name in the sweepstakes?

FSU seems to have some momentum on the heels of the Dillan Gibbons commitment. I’d say they have a 50/50 chance of getting him on board.
