2021 NFL Draft: Predicting what round FSU players are selected
By Kelvin Hunt
Asante Samuel Jr.
Asante Samuel Jr. was a part of Willie Taggart’s first recruiting class in 2018 but originally committed to the Noles while Jimbo Fisher was head coach.
Taggart did a good job of keeping Samuel Jr. from flipping to Miami, who wanted the blue-chip cornerback badly.
Samuel Jr. was the No. 60 player overall and No. 9 cornerback, and No. player in Florida. Samuel Jr. is the last cornerback signed since Jalen Ramsey to live up to his recruiting ranking.
A player small in stature but plays much bigger than his height and length that’s capable of playing man-to-man or zone coverage.
Samuels, the son of a former NFL cornerback, had advanced technique coming into college and helped him overcome some of the things he lacks from a physical aspect.
He’s a competitor, and pound-for-pound likely had the most ‘dawg’ than any other player on the FSU roster. His Pro-Day performance was impressive and helped his stock.
Samuel Jr. is consistently considered the fourth-best cornerback in the draft and could be a late first-round or early second-round selection.
