2021 NFL Draft: Predicting what round FSU players are selected
By Kelvin Hunt
The FSU football program has seen a steady decline in the number of players taken in the NFL Draft over the last few years.
There are a lot of reasons for that. Multiple coaches and transitional recruiting classes are the biggest culprits, not to mention the lack of player development.
The 2021 NFL Draft should see an uptick in FSU football players taken, with several blue-chip players from the final 2017 top-heavy recruiting class of Jimbo Fisher exiting the program.
The Noles have had three players taken over the last two drafts.
Running back Cam Akers was the only Noles selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams.
The 2019 NFL Draft only saw two Noles selected when Brian Burns was a first-round selection, and DeMarcus Christmas was a sixth-round selection.
The 2021 NFL Draft could see the most Noles taken since the 2015 NFL Draft when 11 former Noles had their names called to enter the NFL.
There are six players with the potential to have their names called over the next couple of days:
- Asante Samuel Jr.
- Marvin Wilson
- Hamsah Nasirildeen
- Joshua Kaindoh
- Janarius Robinson
- Tamorrion Terry
I feel optimistic all of them will have their names called, but if there’s a couple that doesn’t, I’m confident they’ll sign as undrafted free agents. Sometimes, signing as a UDFA is better than becoming a late-round selection.
I’m going to break down each player and how/why they’ll be drafted in what round.
