FSU baseball: Noles leading Georgia Tech in game two(play suspended)

FSU baseball (19-14, 14-11 ACC) got the offense going early for the second day in a row to clinch the series against Georgia Tech.

The Noles got on the board first inning on a Robby Martin RBI double that scored Tyler Martin.

The onslaught continued in the second inning when Logan Lacy hit a three-run home run.

Matheu Nelson continued his hot hitting with his NCAA leading 17th home run of the year in the fourth inning to give the Noles a 6-0 lead.

The Noles tacked on two more runs to increase the lead to 8-1 after four innings.

Bryce Hubbart was steady for the Noles and got the victory after pitching five innings. He had five strikeouts with one walk while allowing three hits and one earned run.

The FSU bull pen tried to make it interesting as Georgia Tech scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 11-7. It was interesting to note all of the damage that happened after back-to-back two-out walks.

However, the FSU offense got it going again with runners on first and second with no outs before the game was delayed by lightning for over an hour. The lightning suspended play until Sunday at noon ET. The third game of the series will begin 30 minutes after the end of game two.

Tyler Martin, Logan Lacey, and Robby Martin had two hits each, with Lacey totaling five RBI’s. Matheu Nelson had three RBI’s, and Robby Martin had two RBI’s.

FSU batters totaled 11 hits, with the bottom of the lineup bringing much-needed production. They also took advantage of 11 walks from Yellow Jacket pitchers while striking out eight times.

The Noles will look to go for a much-needed series sweep Sunday if they close out game two.
