FSU football: 5 players who benefited most from 2021 spring camp
By Kelvin Hunt
Jordan Travis
The quarterback position looks like it will finally be a strength for the Noles in 2021. It’s something that’s been lacking since Deondre Francois’s redshirt freshman year in 2016.
Even then, there was a lot left on the table because he was inexperienced and inaccurate. Jordan Travis emerged as the catalyst of the offense last year but was limited by not having a spring and injuries in fall camp.
The knock-on him has always been limitations as a passer, but the spring showed he’s improved in that area quite a bit.
I think most people thought McKenzie Milton would waltz into Tallahassee and take the starting job without a fight. However, Travis had the better spring with Milton coming on strong late.
Can Jordan Travis keep the starting job? It’s possible if he continues to improve in the passing game. The good news is, if Milton is the starter and goes down with an injury, Jordan Travis is more than a capable backup.
If he’s improved his passing, it’ll mean the offense won’t have to rely on his legs quite as much. It’s also where Travis is most injury-prone as a runner. He took several hard hits last year while running the ball.
To his credit, Travis has put on some needed muscle and may be able to take those hits better in 2021. Either way, this spring helped solidify Travis as a real threat to be the quarterback in 2021 at some point.
