Malik McClain

I’ve been preaching the importance of players enrolling early if they want to contribute as a true freshman.

The wide receiver position is often a difficult transition from high school to college. Not only is everyone bigger and faster, but the offenses and defenses are also more complicated.

However, freshman wide receiver Malik McClain was one of those who enrolled early and shined on multiple occasions, including a strong spring game that put everyone on notice.

Normally I wouldn’t count on a freshman receiver to make an impact, but McClain almost needs to be for the FSU offense to be effective.

The ability to get tons of reps in the spring is invaluable. They help him get acquainted with the speed of the game, which plays he can be the most effective.

Of course, he made mistakes in the spring and consistency is going to be the biggest key for McClain as he matures.

He has the physical ability, but it’s all about gaining confidence and knowing he can be a threat in the offense. Spring camp helped him do that, but now it’s all about getting the consistency needed to be effective.
