Fabien Lovett

FSU football has struggled to bring in quality defensive tackles since the 2018 recruiting class.

The addition of Fabien Lovett from the transfer portal is a move, in hindsight, that will plug a huge hole in terms of talent and depth in that unit.

Lovett played well at times last season, despite battling injuries and not having a full offseason to learn his role in the defense.

However, Lovett has arguably been the best defensive tackle on the line through spring camp. We heard his name from coaches in a positive light far more often than any, other and he looked disruptive the times we’ve seen him in action.

FSU will need production from him big-time in 2021. The defensive line was thought to be a strength of the defense last year, but that turned out to arguably be the worst unit on the field.

They lacked penetration and allowed teams to average over five yards per carry in the rushing game. A healthy Lovett that’s comfortable in this role should be a difference-maker for the Noles in 2021.

It’s a money year with him being draft-eligible after this season and a strong spring means he could cash in around this time next year if he declares for the draft.
