FSU baseball (17-13, 12-10 ACC) got a much-needed 10-2 win in their series opener against Boston College.

I wrote in the preview it would be up to the FSU offense to take advantage of the lackluster Boston College pitchers.

Their propensity to walk batters cost them in the third inning when Matheu Nelson emptied the bases with a grand slam.

Nander De Sedas hit a solo shot in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to 5-0. Boston College tried to claw their way back into it with two runs in the top of the fifth.

However, a Tyler Martin grand slam in the bottom of the seventh put the game out of reach. The Noles scored their final run on an RBI double by Elijah Cabell.

FSU starting pitcher Parker Messick went five innings, striking out eight and walking two while allowing two earned runs. The FSU bullpen allowed three hits, seven strikeouts, and one walk the rest of the way.

Tyler Martin finished the game 2-4 with four RBI’s. Matheu Nelson went 1-4 with four RBI’s. Wyatt Crowell finished the game 3-4 with a double, and Elijah Cabell finished 2-2 with three walks and the RBI.

The offense had a total of 10 hits, seven strikeouts, and eight walks. Reese Albert struck out three times, and it’s time to sit him on the bench and give someone else a shot. He has no clue at the plate right now and is an automatic out.

It was a good win for the Noles after losing five of their last eight games. The next two games should follow the same blueprint because of how the two teams match up. Boston College pitchers aren’t dominating, and FSU pitchers should be able to keep their hitters in check.

Saturday’s game will begin at 12 noon ET and will air on the ACC Network Extra, or ESPN3 (if you have a cable provider).
