Team Will Be More Physical

The physical aspect of this team will be different. Physicality is something Mike Norvell emphasized all spring camp, and there was a difference in the spring game.

I saw Jermaine Johnson looking like a guy that could play on Sundays at the defensive end position. Kevin Knowles looked like a young Asante Samuel Jr. wearing the No. 26.

Knowles made a couple of impressive plays coming downhill and laying the wood. There was no hesitation, and he tackled instead of trying to land a big hit and bouncing off with the guy running for more yards.

Malcolm Ray penetrated the backfield a couple of plays and whipped the offensive line.

Amari Gainer has always been physical and that will continue this year. I saw Jarrian Jones with some nice hits, and Akeem Dent snuffed out a screen and landed a big hit after giving up a big play earlier in the game.

The team still needs to hit the strength and conditioning portion of summer, and fall camp hard because they missed about 30 percent of it last year. However, I think it’s the mentality to want to be physical that’s changed more than anything.
