Reduced Capacity

The record for attendance at Doak Campbell Stadium (84,431) was set in 2014, with FSU football hosting Notre Dame.

However, the decline in the program saw home attendance drop quite a bit since the 2017 season.

The 2018 season began with a bang against Virginia Tech (75,237) but saw as little as 57,274 show up for a 3:30 p.m. ET game against No. 22 Boston College.

The 2019 season got worse as the Noles saw the following attendance numbers:

Boise State-50,917(moved to Tallahassee at the last minute due to a hurricane)
Louisiana-Monroe-52,969
Louisville-46,530
NC State-60,351
Syracuse-50,517
Alabama State-52,857

FSU football fans were not exactly beating down the doors to come to games, and there were lots of empty seats on television. The reduction of seating will not be that big of a deal as 70,000 is still a large number of fans.

It’s enough to make enough noise to provide an excellent home-field advantage. I mean, think how loud the 75,000 were in 2018 against Virginia Tech.

It’s always better to appear overly full than to have large numbers of empty seats. All you have to do is look at any Miami home game, and you’ll see what I mean.

All of these potential renovations are good for the FSU football program and the fans.
