Poor Shooting Overall

Michigan is one of the better shooting teams in the nation, making 48.3 percent of their shots. I know we spoke about their three-point shooting, but they aren’t overly reliant on those as they make up 33 percent of their shot selection.

However, Michigan can struggle offensively at times, and poor shooting has been a trend in all four of their losses:

  • (No. 56 ranked defense via Ken Pom)Minnesota: 39.3 percent
  • (No. 6 ranked defense via Ken Pom) Illinois: 34.7 percent
  • (No. 45 ranked defense via Ken Pom) Michigan State: 41.7 percent
  • (No. 81 ranked defense via Ken Pom) Ohio State: 35. 1 percent

Those are the field goal percentages Michigan had against each of those teams and their defensive ranking, according to Ken Pom stats. The Noles checks in at No. 31 according to Ken Pom, but the level of defense they have played the last two games has been better than that.

Colorado came into the tournament shooting 45 percent, and the Noles held them to 35.7 percent. UNC-Greensboro went into the tournament shooting 42.4 percent, and the Noles held them to 31.7 percent. For comparison sake, Colorado has the No. 13 offense in the nation, according to Ken Pom.
