FSU football: Several former Noles secure new NFL contracts
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football hasn’t churned out as many NFL players in recent years as they have historically, but there’s still a large number of former players securing new NFL deals going into 2021.
The Noles only had had one player (Cam Akers, second round) drafted by NFL teams in 2020. That’s the lowest total since 2009, with Everette Brown drafted in the second round.
FSU football should surpass that number in the 2021 NFL Draft, but it’s good to know several former players received new contracts going into the 2021 season.
Here’s a complete list via NFL.com:
- Lamarcus Joyner: One-year, 4.5 million dollars with the New York Jets
- Ryan Izzo: Traded to Houston Texans, with one year of his rookie deal remaining
- Terrance Brooks: One-year, two million dollars with the Houston Texans
- Ronald Darby: Three-year, 30 million, with 19.5 million fully guaranteed with the Denver Broncos
- Dustin Hopkins: Re-signed with the Washington Football team, 2.4 million with 1.88 million guaranteed
- Mario Edwards Jr.: Three-year, 11.5 million dollars with the Chicago Bears
- Cam Erving: Two-year, 10 million dollars with the Carolina Panthers
- Jameis Winston: One year up to 12 million dollars with the New Orleans Saints
- P.J. Williams: One-year, 2.3 million dollars fully guaranteed with the New Orleans Saints
- Rodney Hudson: Traded to the Arizona Cardinals with two-years remaining on his contract worth over 20 million dollars
It’s good to see former Noles still prospering after being in the NFL longer than the average player. Of course, there are several former Noles under massive contracts like Dalvin Cook, Jalen Ramsey, Derwin James, Brian Burns, Eddie Goldman, and others.
FSU football will likely see former players like Asante Samuel Jr, Marvin Wilson, Tamorrion Terry, Joshua Kaindoh, and possibly Janarius Robinson drafted in a few weeks.
FSU will host its NFL Pro Day Monday, March 22nd, and players will showcase their ability in front of scouts at that time in place of the traditional NFL Combine.
