FSU baseball (7-6, 4-5 ACC) has won five of its last seven games to climb above .500. The last couple of games have produced a team that’s clicking on most cylinders, explosive hitting, good pitching, but a defense that needs to play better.

The Noles have won their last two ACC Conference series after getting swept in the conference opener against Pittsburgh. The last outing was an beatdown of rival Florida and they’ll face another rival this weekend.

FSU baseball travels to take on Miami (9-4, 5-3 ACC), who has won their last six games. The Canes bring an offense that’s not great, and truthfully, their pitching isn’t great either.  Miami batters are hitting .258 with an on-base percentage of .371, and have slugged 15 home runs, three triples, and 16 doubles.

Miami pitchers will enter the contest with a 4.08 ERA, with opposing teams batting .235, with 113 strikeouts and 35 walks in 119 innings.

Defensively, Miami has 18 errors in 13 games for a fielding percentage of .965.

FSU’s strength is their pitching staff, who enters the contest with a 3.22 ERA, with opposing teams batting .206, with 159 strikeouts and 61 walks in 120 innings.

FSU batters are hitting .240 with an on-base percentage of .367, and have 15 home runs, zero triples, and 19 doubles.

Defensively, FSU has 18 errors in 13 games for a fielding percentage of .964.

How’s It Going To Go?

This matchup looks to favor FSU baseball as they have the more dominant pitching staff, and both offenses have similar stats. However, the FSU offense has heated up over the last four games, hitting over .300 with nine home runs and 30 runs scored, while only striking out 28.6 percent of the time(down about eight percent).

Miami pitchers haven’t shown to be dominant with fewer strikeouts than innings pitched, and they have allowed 16 home runs. They don’t walk a lot of batters, and if the FSU bats stay hot, this could be a series that propels the Noles the rest of the season.

FSU baseball will send the same starting rotation to the mound as last weekend, and hopefully, FSU pitchers can continue to pitch well as they have most of the season.

The first pitch Friday will be at 7 p.m. ET. If you have a cable provider, you may be able to stream the game on ESPN3.
