FSU baseball (8-6, 5-5 ACC) wins their third consecutive game with a 13-1 blowout win over rival Miami (9-5, 5-4 ACC) in their series opener.

I wrote in the series preview it was a good matchup for the Noles because Miami’s pitching isn’t a strong staff.

The FSU batters wasted no time making me look like a genius as they scored eight runs in the first two innings.

They tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the top of the eighth.

FSU starting pitcher Parker Messick was tremendous, going 6.2 innings, with 10 strikeouts. four hits, one walk, and one earned run allowed.

Messick continued his production at the plate with three RBI’s on a 1-4 outing. Robby Martin had three hits, Tyler Martin had two hits, and Matheu Nelson had two hits to pace the ‘Noles offense.

FSU batters had their third consecutive game with fewer than 10 strikeouts and also had four walks.

I wrote how both teams struggle defensively, and Miami’s miscues showed early in the game with a couple of errors. The FSU defense was flawless, including this outstanding play early in the game:

Parting Thoughts

FSU baseball is playing like a confident team the last five games, and they’ve won six of their last eight games. The hitting has become contagious, and FSU pitchers have been what we thought they could be since the Pittsburgh series.

I thought the momentum they had after the blowout win over Florida could propel them into the Miami series. This blowout win over Miami in the series opener could be a sign of things to come as I’m not sure Miami has the firepower to deal with the Noles right now.

The second game will take place Saturday, with the first pitch at 7 p.m. ET
