FSU baseball (7-6, 4-5 ACC) climbs back above .500 with a dominant 10-2 offensive barrage against the Florida Gators.

Mike Martin Jr. remains unbeaten in his second game against the Gators and it looks as though the offensive momentum from the Virginia Tech series carried over to Tuesday night.

The Noles wasted no time jumping in front in the bottom of the first inning on a three-run home run by Robby Martin.

The FSU offense continued to cook in the bottom of the second, posting four more runs for a 7-0 lead.

Freshman pitcher Carson Montgomery was dealing early, going 4.2 innings with nine strikeouts, three walks, and two earned runs allowed.

Chase Haney came in to stop the bleeding in the top of the fifth, and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.The FSU bullpen only allowed one hit the rest of the game with seven strikeouts and three walks.

FSU batters seemed to take out their early-season frustration on the Gators, scoring three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on back-to-back home runs by Robby Martin and Matheu Nelson.

Robby Martin had two home runs in the game, and five RBI’s. Logan Lacey went 3-5 with two RBI’s, and Matheu Nelson went 2-5 with two RBI’s.

The Noles pounded out 13 hits with 9 strikeouts and two walks. The FSU batters looked more disciplined at the plate and several of the outs were good at-bats where they attacked fastballs in the zone.

I can handle strikeouts, those happen, but it’s how the Noles looked early in the season that had me concerned.

I wrote earlier this year how much confidence comes into play when hitting, and it seems like the FSU offense has found some confidence in the last two games. Here’s to hoping it continues into the Miami series that begins Friday afternoon.
