FSU basketball: Noles deserve No. 5 seed at best in NCAA Tournament
By Kelvin Hunt
I was criticized by FSU basketball fans after the loss to North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I tried to tell folks this team was liable to lose to anyone.
However, they wanted to cut the team some slack because they can’t win every game. I don’t know why fans made excuses that day, but that’s exactly what they were.
There is no reason FSU should blow a 12-point lead against a mediocre North Carolina team. FSU has no business losing against teams like Notre Dame.
Heck, FSU lost to Georgia Tech TWICE!
That’s why FSU deserves no higher than a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. This FSU team doesn’t play great when expected to win, and sliding them down a seed or two may be just what they need to play with a chip on their shoulder.
They didn’t begin to get lackadaisical as a team until they started to climb in the rankings and folks began calling them a Final Four team.
I remember saying several times, if they keep playing this well, leave them unranked. However, the higher. The truth is, the ACC Conference isn’t anywhere near as good as it usually is, and there’s a reason why Virginia will likely be no higher than a three seed.
There’s no way to reward FSU with a four-seed or better based on how they have played the last few games. They have been awful and frankly got lucky to make the finals by only have to play one game in the ACC Tournament when Duke canceled their game due to COVID-19 issues.
I know some FSU basketball fans won’t like reading this, but it’s the truth, and I’ve been saying it for the better part of the season. If this team doesn’t play with some sense of urgency, they could lose to anyone.
If they play to their potential, they could make the Final Four.
