FSU baseball (6-6, 4-5 ACC) found its offensive grove Saturday against the Hokies to clinch the series with a 14-7 win.

The offense got a lift from Parker Messick in his first career start as the designated hitter. Messick hit a home run in his first college at-bat and went 3-5 on the day.

Lead-off batter Tyler Martin saw beach balls from Hokie pitchers as he went 5-6 with four runs scored. Nander De Sedas had three hits and Robbie Martin had two hits with five RBI’s.

FSU batters have been striking out at a ridiculous rate, but only fanned seven times in nine innings while producing 18 hits.

FSU pitching was steady, with veteran Conor Grady going five innings to secure the win. He finished with four strikeouts, two walks, and three earned runs.

The FSU bullpen gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth and finished with four innings pitched, six strikeouts, and two walks.

It was a win the Noles desperately needed after being shutout in Saturday’s game. It’s the second consecutive ACC conference series win after being swept by Pittsburgh in the conference opener.

The bats coming alive couldn’t have come at a better time as the Noles will entertain the rival Florida Gators (13-4) Tuesday night in Tallahassee at 6 p.m. ET.

The Noles ended their losing streak to the Gators last season, who was undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation at the time.

One thing that’s reared its ugly head in the Virginia Tech series is the Noles liabilities on defense. I thought the Noles had turned the corner in that phase, but they had three errors Saturday and three more Sunday.

FSU pitching seems to have found their mojo, and hopefully, this offensive barrage Sunday will give the hitters more confidence. They needed this type of performance in the worst way.
