FSU football coaches continue to evaluate recruits in several different recruiting cycles. The opportunities for recruits to showcase their skills are increasing with camps beginning to take place.

The latest recruit to garner an offer from the Noles hails from South Florida by the name of Devaughn Mortimer.

Mortimer is from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale and attended the Under Armour All-America Camp Series over the weekend.

Mortimer announced his FSU offer via Twitter Tuesday morning:

Mortimer checks in at 5’11” and 160 pounds with 11 offers from FSU, Arizona State, Kentucky, Maryland, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas A&M, West Virginia, and other smaller schools.

The home team Miami hasn’t offered yet, although they have had talks with him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them offer now that FSU has thrown their name in the ring.

Mortimer also runs track, with a verified 100-meter time of 10.95 from a year ago. However, Mortimer improved that time to a 10.8 at a track event last week, and with over a year of high school left, still time for him to improve upon that speed.

Mortimer is considered the No. 603 player nationally, No. 76 wide receiver, and No. 81 player in Florida.

There are no 247 Crystal Ball Predictions at this time. One thing of note is FSU’s presence in South Florida increasing in recent weeks. The Noles are making a concerted effort to establish a foothold in that area again, and people are taking notice.

Luther Campbell is a Canes fan but has respect for FSU football and helped several South Florida kids come to FSU when Jimbo Fisher was in charge. Could the same be on the horizon for Mike Norvell? Time will tell, but if that starts to happen, things are going to be different in a hurry in Tallahassee.
