Pass Rush/Defensive Line

This unit is the most important on this side of the ball. If the defensive line can’t stop the run and generate a pass rush? The rest of the defense is going to look terrible.

Oh wait, that’s why the FSU football defense has looked awful the last 2-3 years!

FSU had 10 sacks, and 18 QB hurries, in nine games last season. For comparison sake, Miami had 30 sacks, and 34 quarterback hurries.

How could a defensive line touted as one of the best units in the nation be so bad? They were talented and experienced, but it didn’t translate to production at all.

The coaching staff addressed the pass rush need via the transfer portal and prep players. Jermaine Johnson, Keir Thomas, George Wilson, and Patrick Payton will look to improve on those abysmal  numbers from last year.

Others on the defensive line should be productive with Robert Cooper, Fabien Lovett, Dennis Briggs Jr, and Tru Thompson. Will other players like Malcolm Ray, Quashon Fuller, Curtis Fann, and others make an impact?

Can Odell Haggins shape this unit into one that’s respectable again?
