FSU football: Are elite facilities that important in recruiting?
By Kelvin Hunt
Parting Thoughts
Facilities are important, and I don’t want you reading this thinking otherwise. Do I believe FSU football needs a standalone football facility and other things?
Yes, I think those things would be helpful, especially strength and conditioning, nutrition, and rehabilitation facilities.
However, I believe money spent on infrastructures like support staff, nutrition, trainers, and staff salaries are probably more valuable.
Of course, when players come to campus, you want to impress them with what you have to offer. However, recruiting is all about relationships.
The relationship of the recruit to the coaches is a big-time factor. The coaches to the high school coach, and the coaches to the family members surrounding the recruit, and whoever else has a relationship with that recruit.
It’s why you see players de-committing from places when a coach leaves to go elsewhere. The facilities can be immaculate, but if the player doesn’t feel at home or believe they can get to the next level, it’s a wrap.
Of course, there are other factors we won’t go into regarding recruiting, but I wanted to write this for those fans stuck on the whole facilities deal.
Jimbo Fisher had success recruiting at FSU without elite facilities, and Mike Norvell can do the same thing. However, if Mike Norvell can get FSU back to elite status, I’m sure the FSU administration would be willing to build him whatever he wants.
