FSU basketball: Noles look for seventh consecutive win over Hurricanes
By Kelvin Hunt
No. 11 FSU basketball (13-3, 9-2 ACC) control their destiny in the ACC. They are in sole possession of first place and look to make it seven consecutive wins over the Miami Hurricanes (7-13, 3-12 ACC) when they meet Wednesday night.
The two teams squared off nearly a month ago, with the Noles blowing the Canes out by 22 points.
It was a game the Noles dominated, although they didn’t play their best game with 15 turnovers and shooting 33 percent from three-point range.
Miami didn’t have the firepower on offense to take advantage of the sloppiness the Noles played with at different times in the game.
FSU is the superior team, and their challenge right now is themselves. Can they avoid playing down to their level of competition? They played fairly well against Pittsburgh in their last outing, covering the spread despite MJ Walker being held scoreless.
Miami has lost seven of their last eight but have shown they can sneak up on teams despite their record.
They own wins over Louisville and Duke, not that those teams are better than FSU, but they likely won’t lay down in front of their home crowd unless the Noles put it on them early and avoid getting complacent with the lead.
FSU has become one of the most efficient offenses in the nation, led by RaiQuan Gray, who’s averaging 16.8 points and nine rebounds over the last five games.
The Noles enter the game as -12 point favorites, with the over/under total of 143, according to the Action Network. The total implies the Noles will win 78-66.
FSU needs to play their game, avoid sloppy turnovers, and that should be enough to put the Canes away. They have the advantage on the boards, shoot free-throws better, shoot the three-pointer better, and have more depth.
Tipoff is for 8:30 p.m. with the game airing on the ACC Network.
