No. 16 FSU basketball (12-3, 8-2 ACC) is coming off its biggest win of the season in a 21-point rout of No. 7 Virginia.

The win helped establish the Noles as one of the best teams in the country despite three losses to inferior teams.

FSU is talented, and when firing on all cylinders, is a handful for any team in the country. The only issue is they have looked out of sync, sloppy, and uninterested in their three losses.

The Noles are projected as the No. 5 seed in last week’s Bracketology by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. In this week’s Bracketology, the Noles move up to the No. 4 seed after their destruction of Virginia.

Interestingly enough, Virginia is a No. 3 seed, granted three of their four losses are against ranked opponents. However, all three of those losses have been by 14 points or more, including two losses by 20+ points.

Would FSU beat UVA by 20 points again if they rematched? I’d doubt it, but I’m

Lunardi has the Noles taking on No. 13 Wright State in the Region 3 bracket hosted in Indianapolis.

I suspect Lunardi is penalizing FSU basketball for their inconsistencies of getting up for big games and merely showing up against some inferior opponents. After all, they needed overtime to win against a sub .500 Wake Forest squad just a couple of days before they beat Virginia.

FSU has to get into the mindset of being consistently good no matter who the opponent. No. 1 Gonzaga isn’t out there going life and death with inferior teams.

The ACC Conference isn’t as good as usual, and winning the conference will likely not carry the same weight as it has in past years.

The Noles will be back in action on February 20 as they host No. 18 Virginia Tech at noon. The Hokies will be another quality opponent to help them improve their seeding should they get the victory.
