FSU football had an interesting recruiting cycle that saw them get off to an excellent start. However, the pandemic canceling all normal recruiting activities made the coaching staff get creative in their approach.

The class hovered between the 25-30 ranking for much of the recruiting cycle and finished No. 22 with the staff deciding to use the transfer portal, which isn’t counted in the rankings criteria.

The strategy will help the Noles to compete at a higher level on the field in 2021 while allowing some younger players more time to develop.

Norvell and staff did about as good as one could hope with all things considered and addressed most needs on the roster.

Here’s a rundown of superlatives for the 2021 class:

Biggest Surprise-McKenzie Milton

Luke Altmyer was the quarterback everyone expected in this recruiting class. However, things changed when he decided to state home in Mississippi.

If you said McKenzie Milton will be playing at FSU football in 2021, I don’t think anyone would have expected that.

It was like Keith Sweat because ‘Nobody’ saw that one coming, but his addition gave life to the Noles down the stretch as they closed strong in the transfer portal.
