The strategy Mike Norvell and the staff implored was part genius and part necessity. FSU football couldn’t get the elite players out of high school because of how they’ve looked on the field the past four seasons.

However, they couldn’t afford to sign too many high school players that need to develop if they wanted to try to win games in 2021.

Enter the transfer portal.

I’ve already mentioned McKenzie Milton, who’s better than anyone FSU has at the quarterback position, even if he’s not completely 100 percent.

The defensive end spot got a boost with Jermaine Johnson, who’s expected to start immediately.

DJ Williams will see carries at running back, and several defensive backs from the portal will make contributions with the defense rumored to play more Nickel in 2021.

These moves allow two things to happen. It helps FSU football be more competitive on the field, likely win more games, and allows the freshmen on the roster to develop so they can contribute in 2022.

All FSU has to do is show competency on the field in 2021, and they’ll begin to get better players. It looks like Mike Norvell has a plan to finally make it happen.
