FSU football got its top target from the 2021 recruiting class Wednesday morning when four-star wide receiver Destyn Hill announced his commitment.

He’s the highest-ranked player in the class and helps fill a monster need at the wide receiver position.

All of the signs pointed to the Noles being the team for a while, but the lack of success on the recruiting trail for top players the past few years gave FSU football fans pause.

Hill is an out-of-state player, and FSU hasn’t had a ton of success with recruiting blue-chip players from the state of Louisiana as of late.

Hill’s announcement was set for 10:30 a.m., but it was a part of a team ceremony where multiple players announced their commitment to other institutions. Hill, of course, went last during the broadcast, so fans had to wait impatiently for nearly an hour to find out the final verdict.

In the end, he thanks GOD and various members of the school and his family before putting on an FSU mask to represent his commitment.

I wrote about the impact of Hill’s commitment to the Noles. I can’t stress the importance of landing Hill in the class. All you have to do is think about what the perception would have been having he committed elsewhere during his announcement.

That Mike Norvell haters would have been out in droves, and all of the momentum the Noles have on the recruiting trail would have seemingly taken a hit.

I have to give FSU running back coach David Johnson a ton of credit here. Also, FSU offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and Mike Norvell were in on Hill’s recruitment as well.

The addition of Hill boosts the ‘Noles recruiting class to No. 22 overall and No. 4 in the ACC, with only 17 commitments(since transfers don’t count in the overall rankings).
