FSU Football: 5 players from 2020 class poised for breakout

The young running back exploded for massive yard totals in limited usage and could be poised to make a big jump as the next great running back at Florida State.

This is not embellishment nor an overreaction. Toafili has quickly set himself apart from other running backs in his limited usage. In less than 40 attempts, Toafili has rushed for 356 yards for an impressive 9.6 yard-per-attempt average, which is second-best in the nation.
Toafili was named Co-Offensive Freshman of the year for FSU. With the departure LaDamien Webb, Toafili is in line to become the lead tailback, a worthy reward for an impressive first season.
Toafili can take hits, go in between the tackles, and drop defenders with a nasty dead-leg juke. He was a summer enrollee. The 2021 winter conditioning program and spring practice regiment will be his first.
I am excited to see his development after the offseason. I’d like to see how much weight he can add on, and if he is able to carry it well and keep his speed. This development is vital because it will help him stay healthy and will make getting stuffed at the line more and more difficult.
247Sports and the FSU roster both list Toafili at 6’0, 180 lbs. I could see him adding 10 or 15 more pounds this offseason without losing speed, and could continue to become a bigger element of the offense.
The rotation of Jashaun Corbin, new transfer D.J. Williams, and a bigger Toafili will continue to improve the running game and put some punishment on some defenses in a way we haven’t seen since Dalvin Cook.
