FSU football: Takeaways from Jermaine Johnson press conference

Culture/Teammates
"“Work is work. And in the few workouts we’ve had, these guys are working. It’s fun to be around guys that want to work. And the same thing at Georgia, those guys work. My teammates work. Love them. But in terms of here, I’m here now. And these guys are working their butts off. And we all have a common goal. Just take one day at a time, get 1% better. And hold everybody to the same standard. That’s the goal. And I feel like, with that goal, moving forward each day at a time, this program, everything will line up, and it will become what we want it to be.”"
Johnson has been on campus just a couple of weeks, and he’s already using the 1 percent mantra heard by Mike Norvell and staff.
I mentioned a few weeks ago why it was important for the staff to evaluate players for the right fit, and this is an example of that. Players holding one another accountable will take this program back to where it’s supposed to be, and Johnson seems to understand that.
"“You just got to come in and work, you got to earn a leadership role. You got to earn the respect of people. You don’t just walk in somewhere and be like, ‘Yeah, I’m the new kid on the block. This is my show.’ That’s not how it works. You come in, you work, and you guys grow together."
That similar to what McKenzie Milton said in his interview, and it’s the right approach. I can’t wait to see how this type of mentality can and will influence other players.
