Asante Samuel Jr.

You can’t mention 2020 FSU Football without talking about Asante Samuel Jr. He led the FBS for a time with three interceptions.

Up until his opt-out, he was the best player on the FSU defense. At one point, the PFF grade for throwing the ball into the ground was more than it would be if you targeted a receiver under Samuel’s coverage.

His slight build, only measuring 5’10”, held him back a little in that he was outmuscled a couple of times against Notre Dame (they should have been offensive PI calls, but we know the refs stunk that game).

His performance over the season has lead to a boom in his draft position. Despite the lack of size, Samuel Jr projects to be selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft to the Indianapolis Colts.

Samuel Jr.’s physicality and intensity made him one of the better corners in the NCAA in his short two years as a starter, and he was one of the few bright spots on the FSU football defense.
