FSU football: Best way to handle Kimo Makaneole de-commitment
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
A part of Makaneole’s recruitment was FSU football looking to continue establishing recruiting relationships in the Florida panhandle area, so they couldn’t just drop the kid when he didn’t want to sign early.
It’s a delicate situation with a new staff, but I can assure you they were already looking at other options when it was clear he wasn’t going to sign during the Early Signing Period.
This de-commitment didn’t catch anyone off-guard,and I’m sure Alex Atkins and staff have a plan to remedy the open slot.
It could work out better for FSU football this way. Offensive linemen are not easy to project for the future. Some highly-rated players never pan out, and some low three-star players become All-Pro’s in the NFL.
FSU football coaches and fans want players that want to be in Tallahassee, and we can’t fault the young man looking to make the best decision for himself.
At least he didn’t drag it out until National Signing Day and make a big scene out of the situation. However, I will say we can’t be friends when you choose to go play elsewhere. Those are the rules, and good luck!
