Parting Thoughts

Amazingly, the FSU football fan base is active in trying to identify players in the transfer portal to help the program.

This fan base is thirsty for success, but I also want folks to understand the coaches are looking to bring in the right players to help turn this thing around.

Some players ranked highly may not be the best fit. Some players may not have any prior relationships with the staff to make that process easier. Other players may not want to become a part of rebuilding program.

The two transfer players they’ve signed have indicated they understand the expectation. McKenzie Milton has gone through the process of building a program. The quote Jarques McClellion gave Noles247 encapsulated all I want to hear from a player transferring into the program:

"When they offered, I just felt like that was the right opportunity for me, for my family. It is closer to home. Playing for Coach Mike Norvell, looking at the progress he has done at all the schools he has been to, and now what he is doing at Florida State, I believe in the process. I believe in the program,” McClellion said. “At the end of the day, I just want Florida State to be right where they need to be. Right back on top.” “They like me as a lockdown cornerback. They needed that. They want me to come in and make sure that position is held to the highest standard. They want me to play my butt off every Saturday,” McClellion said. “They told me that Asante Samuel Jr. had declared for the [NFL] Draft and they just need another cornerback over there just to take his spot and to show that I’m lockdown just like him. To show that I have character and leadership as well, like he did. To bring maturity to the defensive back room, that they need to have, to hold, and work at a high standard, especially playing for Florida State. “I understood that and agreed with everything Coach Norvell said,” McClellion said."

Saying those things and doing them are two different things, but the last couple of sentences is everything you want to hear from a player that’s going to join the program.

They are looking for talented players with experience. However, the players must understand why the coaching staff wants them to join the journey.

That’s why transfer portal evaluations are extremely important, and the staff can’t afford to miss them.
