FSU football: Explaining ‘Noles recruiting strategy and ranking
By Kelvin Hunt
Recruiting Strategy
Why is FSU football ranked No. 22 in the nation? It’s because they have only 17 high school players that have either signed or committed. The reason several teams are ranked higher is simple, they have 5-8 more high school players committed, which raises the overall team ranking.
FSU’s team ranking is lower, but their average ranking per player (88.05) is higher than three teams ranked above them. Could FSU have signed more high school players and likely had a top 20 class right now?
Absolutely.
However, the staff knows they need players that can come in and play right away in 2021. That’s why they are looking to take several transfer players(which don’t count towards the team ranking).
The transfer cornerback the Noles signed Sunday can likely start immediately in 2021 because he has two years of starting experience. The transfer QB McKenzie Milton can start immediately in 2021, provided he’s fully healthy from the leg injury he suffered two years ago.
FSU will likely take some offensive linemen from the transfer portal. Those players will be able to play immediately in 2021, unlike most high school players that need 1-2 years to develop first. The same goes for any wide receiver transfers or defensive linemen.
