FSU basketball: Noles run through Gators for seventh consecutive
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU basketball wins its seventh consecutive game against the Gators.
FSU basketball (3-0, 0-0 ACC) continues to own Florida on the court. The Noles started shaky in the first half but finished the half strong to lead 45-35 at halftime.
FSU looked as though they were sleepwalking early in the game with an 11 a.m. tipoff. They had multiple turnovers with sloppy play and looked out of sync on offense. However, they began to find their stride late in the first half behind some highlight plays from freshman phenom Scottie Barnes.
Florida did lose their best player in the first half after collapsing on the court following a fast break dunk. However, the improvement in FSU’s play was more to do with them not turning the ball over and taking better shots.
FSU basketball shot over 50 percent from the floor in the first half and improved at the free-throw line compared to their last outing against Indiana. The Noles also shot it well from beyond-the-arc at over 43 percent.
It was the seventh consecutive win for Leonard Hamilton over the Florida Gators. One of the biggest stories coming out of the game is the play of Scottie Barnes. The shots he made in overtime to propel the Noles past Indiana seemed to carry over to his play against the Gators.
He was more aggressive in his play on the offensive end, with better shot selection overall. The Noles were led by the trio of MJ Walker, Barnes, and Anthony Polite, with all three scoring in double figures.
Leonard Hamilton continues to play tons of players with 11 players seeing action, which should bode well for the Noles as the season continues.
FSU basketball will enter ACC play in their next outing against Georgia Tech on Tuesday, December 15 at 8:30 pm on the ACC network.
