FSU football: Coaching staff balancing now and future recruiting
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football looks to finish strong and work towards the future.
FSU football is sitting at No. 31 in the national recruiting rankings after the loss of four-star Luke Altmyer earlier in the week.
It’s the worst ranking(on paper) the Noles have had in our lifetime, and the early signing period is just under two weeks away.
They have 15 commitments, with room to take about 10 or 11 more players in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
I think they’ll take a few high school players, but I believe the bulk of those remaining slots will go-to players in the transfer portal.
There’s a couple of reasons I believe that. Transfer players are a bit more developed and physically more ready to play compared to freshmen.
All of their other offers going out are for 2022, 2023, and even the 2024 recruiting class. Here are a few that have gone out in the past week or so:
Thoughts
FSU expanded its recruiting board somewhat a few weeks ago, but seem content with where they are for 2021 prospects. However, it’s good to see they understand the need to get new offers out to future classes during a time when they’ve had games on the schedule postponed or canceled due to COVID-19.
The recruiting cycle still looks like it’ll be limited through April because the NCAA extended its dead period. However, FSU coaches have to find a way to begin getting recruits on campus. Other schools are finding ways to get it done, one rule I follow in recruiting is to follow the visits.
A prime example was Altmyer visiting Ole Miss multiple times, while not being able to make it back to Tallahassee after committing earlier in the year.
If things remain shut down, the coaching staff can’t say they didn’t have ample time to make adjustments as all of the schools will be on a level playing field because they knew ahead of time.
