The former star quarterback at Central Florida entered the transfer portal on Thursday.

With former Heisman Trophy candidate McKenzie Milton having now entered the transfer portal, Florida State probably will be on the list of schools that inquire about his services.

It has been over two years since the last time McKenzie Milton played a game at Central Florida. After suffering a catastrophic and career-threatening knee injury in late November 2018, Milton went through many different trials and tribulations in rehabbing, including multiple setbacks that required more surgery.

He was finally cleared to return to football this past summer and has mainly been the scout team quarterback for UCF.

Now, with current starter Dillon Gabriel the clear cut starter for the Golden Knights, Milton has decided to enter the transfer portal, ending his career at UCF with 8683 passing yards, 72 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions, as well as 1078 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

While Milton, who placed eighth in Heisman voting in 2017, hasn’t said anything about being interesting in Florida State, the Seminoles should certainly pursue him.

With James Blackman having already left the program in early November, Florida State’s quarterback situation is not very promising.

They have started four different quarterbacks (including Blackman), and while they’ve all shown flashes, none of them have given off the impression that they are the future at the position. Milton, who would be a rare sixth-year senior next year, and at least he will allow the younger quarterbacks to learn from him.

With that said, there are certainly concerns with bringing him on. He hasn’t played in two years, so there are questions on whether or not his knee will hold up for a full season. There’s also no telling how good of a fit he will be in Mike Norvell’s offense.

On top of that, Milton still has to show interest in playing for FSU. According to ESPN, Milton “wants to find a team with a chance to win that has a solid offensive line and needs a veteran quarterback”.

Florida State very much is in dire need of a veteran quarterback next season, so they check that box. Their offensive line, however, has been putrid so far, giving up 28 sacks in eight games, and as far as having a chance to win, FSU has put together a record of 13-20 over the past three seasons. That record is not exactly a record the screams having a chance to win.

It will be interesting next month as Milton decides where he wants to go to school. While it’s unlikely that Florida State will be able to win his services over other schools in the state like Miami & Florida, they should at least put out feelers for him.
