FSU football adds a versatile player to its 2021 recruiting class.

The FSU football staff is looking to finish out its 2021 recruiting class on a high note. The Noles offered three-star linebacker, Shyheim Brown, a few days ago, and Brown decided to pull the trigger on his commitment Friday evening.

Brown is listed as a linebacker at 6’1″ 185 pounds, but will likely play safety in college unless he puts on more weight in the strength and conditioning program.

He hails from Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida, where former FSU linebacker Brian Allen is the head coach. It’s also where other former Noles like Tim Jernigan, Trey Marshall, and Reinard Wilson called home.

Brown announced via his Twitter account:

Thoughts

I can hear FSU football fans now crying and whining that he’s a three-star recruit. As I’ve been telling fans for weeks now, these are the types of players FSU has to land and develop before they can be in the running for a ton of elite blue-chip players.

If anyone has doubts about whether Brown can play at this level, look no further than Brian Allen’s stamp of approval:

FSU offered shortly after, and the rest is history. Coach Allen is a well-respected coach and was a baller in his own right, and to say Brown could have played at FSU football in the ’90s speaks volumes.

That high school is known for producing hard-nosed players, and that’s something the program needs in abundance right now. FSU coaches have also offered his teammate, wide receiver Marcus Peterson who’s in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Brown is the 16th commitment for the 2021 recruiting cycle, and the Noles likely have about 9-10 spots remaining to fill. The majority of those spots will likely go to either JUCO or transfer portal players.
