FSU football: Local offensive tackle Anthony Belton decommits from TCU
By Kelvin Hunt
A potential FSU football offensive line target is back on the market.
FSU football has seen its offensive line show improvements under new offensive line coach Alex Atkins. The Noles have been able to run the ball much better, and quarterbacks have had more time to throw compared to the last couple of years.
The interior of the line has been its strength, with the offensive tackle position being a position of need for years.
Mike Norvell and staff looked to address that position in 2020 through the transfer portal with Devontay Love-Taylor. He was the best offensive linemen for the Noles before an injury ended his season. FSU hopes he can return in 2021.
FSU knows the position is still a need and has looked to address it in the 2021 recruiting class. They have four-star offensive tackle Rod Orr committed and would like to add at least one more in this class.
A potential target they’ve had talks with in the past (no offer yet) became available Thursday night. Three-star offensive tackle Anthony Belton announced his de-commitment from TCU:
Belton is considered the No. 49 ranked JUCO player overall and No. 5 offensive tackle. He stands 6’6″ and 325 pounds, and what makes him somewhat unique is he is a Tallahassee native. He was a 2019 FSU High graduate and enrolled at Georgia Military College after not qualifying out of high school. However, it looks as though he’s set to graduate in December.
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out as Belton could help fill a position of need and is two years removed from high school, which should help him physically.
If they don’t offer I would assume they feel they have better options. I know the staff is leaving no stones unturned on the recruiting trail, and this one could be a situation to keep an eye on.
