Trent Forrest went undrafted, but received a two-way deal from the Utah Jazz

The heart and soul of FSU Basketball for the last couple of years, Trent Forrest, did not get drafted but was able to secure a two-way deal with the Utah Jazz the following day. A two-way contract means that Forrest will be switching back-and-forth between the Jazz’s G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, and the team itself. He will begin his career making around $500,000, which is about the average for a two-way player.

While watching the closing moments of the draft, I thought to myself, whoever grabs Trent as an undrafted free agent will be getting a steal. Trent, one of the most beloved Seminoles ever, is a tremendous leader, person, and ballplayer. He managed to lead his team to a Sweet 16 appearance after dealing with a severe foot injury throughout the season. He hit big shot after big shot when the team needed it most. Multiple game-winning buckets and we all will forever remember the dunk against Jordan Nwora.

Trent leaves Florida State as the all-time winningest player in FSU Basketball history. He plays tenacious defense, has great handles and quickness, and can score at the rim at will. The one area where there are deficiencies is in his shooting. He grew in this area his senior season, however, the NBA provides it’s own set of challenges when it comes to shooting the ball. That will be something Forrest will need to work on to hopefully one day earn his way into a full-time NBA contract.

With Mike Conley and Emmanuel Mudiay the only real serviceable guards in Utah, I would imagine that Trent has a path to making it over for some games throughout the next NBA season. Only time will tell if Trent can make a name for himself like Danny Green, Chris Anderson, Hassan Whiteside, Robert Covington, and Quinn Cook have after receiving contracts full time in the NBA.
