FSU football: Mike Norvell understands value of the transfer portal
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
FSU coaches have already started the process of eyeing the transfer portal and have had contact with several players. They have also issued a several offers from the JUCO ranks.
I expect them to target many positions in the transfer portal/JUCO ranks:
- Quarterback
- Offensive Tackle
- Defensive End
- Defensive Tackle
- Wide Receiver
FSU needs stability at the quarterback position. Jordan Travis has given the ‘Noles a spark, but he’s limited passing and is injury prone. That leaves Chubba Purdy, who’s also been prone to injury, and Tate Rodemaker, who needs more time to develop.
A graduate transfer QB would allow Travis to be used in another capacity with Purdy, Rodemaker, and hopefully, FSU commit Luke Altmyer developing.
There’s smoke with Altmyer and Ole Miss, so a graduate transfer would be even more important if he were to flip his commitment.
The wide receiver position is incredibly thin since Willie Taggart didn’t sign one in the 2019 recruiting class. The young group has been underwhelming without Tamorrion Terry, who’s no longer with the program. A proven wide receiver would be a big addition for this coaching staff.
The help needed in the trenches goes without saying. It’s going to be an interesting couple of months to see how the coaching staff works to rebuild the roster.
