FSU football: Mike Norvell understands value of the transfer portal
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football could speed up its revival with transfer portal help.
FSU football head coach Mike Norvell is catching a bad rap from some FSU football fans. Those delusional fans think he’s not a good recruiter based on the Noles being ranked No. 22 nationally.
The staff doesn’t even have normal recruiting circumstances to work under.
Of course, we believe stars matter, but so do proper evaluations and player development. If stars were the only thing that mattered, FSU would have never fallen off as bad as they have over the past three seasons.
FSU may not be getting the five-stars they got in Jimbo Fisher’s last recruiting class in 2017. However, Mike Norvell and staff have proven they can develop players while at Memphis, which is needed more than anything to raise the floor of the program.
The highly-rated blue-chip players will come once the program returns to respectability. One way to speed up that process is using the transfer portal. Mike Norvell spoke on their potential use of that tool during Wednesday’s press conference after practice.
I think roster management is an area where Mike Norvell excels, and it’s where his attention to detail and ability to organize have prevented things from being worse.
For those that don’t understand what I mean? Let’s take a look at how quickly they used the transfer portal to sure up some holes on the roster left by the old staff.
