Defense

Man, your guess is just as good as mine regarding the FSU football defense. I see things every week that has me asking myself questions.

Why can teams seemingly run slants non-stop and have success at will? Why do players continue to miss tackles for loss or routine tackles?

Why does a third and long seems like teams are going to convert every single time? NC State converted 10 of 15 third downs and averaged nearly six yards per play, with the latter being right on their seasonal average.

I guess it’s progress they didn’t exceed their seasonal average? The defensive line did play a bit better than I anticipated, and they did well against the run for the majority of the game.

Emmett Rice flashed and made a couple of spectacular tackle for loss plays.  Jarvis Brownlee had a spectacular interception.

Amari Gainer had 12 tackles to lead the team(Rice had 11). Hamsah Nasirildeen made his season debut and played well considering it was his first action since the Florida game last year.

I’m not sure we can expect any real improvements with this unit this season.
