FSU football has the perception there’s a lot of talent on the roster. Is it true?

FSU football averaged top 10 recruiting classes in the first half of 6-7 years of the last decade. Jimbo Fisher brought in a ton of talent during those years, but the ability to develop the talent began to fall off after the 2013 National Championship.

A prime example is Fisher’s last recruiting class in 2017 that saw 10 players ranked in the top 150 in the nation join the roster.

The crazy thing is four of those players never contributed much at all during their time on the roster.

I wrote about how all of those top recruiting classes were fool’s gold nearly two years ago.

However, FSU football still has the perception the team is loaded with talent despite finishing with recruiting classes outside the top 10 in the last three seasons.

There’s not a lot of talent on the roster, and if you don’t believe me, I’m going to list all of the blue-chip players (composite rankings) below via Seminoles.com:

  1. Jashaun Corbin-4 star (2020 transfer)

Thoughts

That’s not a lot of blue-chip talent, and I’d list around 11 of those players as players that player sparingly or not at all. Here’s the kicker, 47 percent of the blue-chip players on the team are either freshman or sophomore.

A combination of young/lack of talent is a big reason the team looks the way it does at the moment. Not to mention, the players listed here have not been developed on and off the field by the previous coaching staff. Not to mention the current staff didn’t get a chance to develop the players the way they normally would have because of the pandemic.
