FSU football: Reaction to ‘Noles blowout loss against Pittsburgh
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has some serious problems in every aspect.
FSU football is like a broken record every week. The sad part is they came into the Pittsburgh game off of a bye week and looked like crap.
It’s the same thing every week, the offense goes down the field and scores a touchdown and completely falls apart afterward.
The team is mentally weak and can’t handle any type of adversity. The defense was put into some tough situations because Mike Norvell decided to go for it on some fourth downs near mid-field.
However, it was almost like Norvell knew he needed points every drive on offense, but the last two calls to go for it on fourth down were questionable.
The playcalling on those two plays were questionable as well. It looks as though teams have adjusted to Jordan Travis as quarterback for the Noles. He did have some running success early, but once they started bringing pressure, it was a wrap.
Travis took a beating in the second quarter and didn’t play in the second half due to an injury. What did Mike Norvell decide to do? He trotted James Blackman out there, and he promptly threw an interception on his second throw.
Pittsburgh scored a touchdown a couple of plays later to take a 31-17 lead.
Mike Norvell put freshman Chubba Purdy in the game, and he was running for his life. If he had any plans to put Purdy in the game, he should have done it without involving James Blackman.
Purdy showed heart, but it’s hard to assess his play because he was running for his life every snap.
I know Pittsburgh has a good defense, but it was shades of the 2018 offensive line at points. The FSU defense continues to look awful after having two weeks to prepare for the Panthers.
They were missing Marvin Wilson and Travis Jay, but it’s not like they have been difference-makers this season.
This FSU football team may not win another game all season. The final score of the game was 41-17.
