FSU football: 3 keys to victory for Noles against Pittsburgh
By Kelvin Hunt
Win Battle of Special Teams
Special teams have been an area where FSU fans first saw improvements in the Mike Norvell era. We’ve seen the team be able to block field goals, punts, and limiting the team’s ability to be explosive on their kickoff and punt returns.
FSU punting has been good, but their field goal kicking has been shaky at best as of late. I still don’t trust the FSU defense, so it’s going to be imperative for special teams to play well.
In the event the FSU offense can’t move the ball, special teams are going to have to force the Pittsburgh offense to drive the length of the field to score.
I also think FSU special teams are going to need a superb effort on kickoff and punt returns(in the event the FSU defense can force a punt).
The Pittsburgh defense is their strongest unit, and the ability to create shorter fields for the offense would be huge for the Noles.
I don’t propose kicking field goals, but the FSU football offense has struggled in the red zone so far this season. If they have to kick field goals, I’d advise the FSU kickers to get their stuff together.
The over/under for this game is 50 points at most betting sites, according to the Action Network. FSU is favored by -1.5 points, which implies a 26-24 type score. That means field position could be huge in this one.
